Gallery anyone?

Yesterday I was in the hunt for a decent, easy to setup gallery system. After previous experience with the software Gallery used by a mate of mine (in version 1.4.3) I was going to give it a shot.

So I downloaded the package (version 1.4.4.pl2) and the german language pack. After reading through the basic setup procedure I was amazed how easy the setup is. After about 10 minutes I was ready to upload everything. The following setup when through without a problem and the gallery was up. Then it was time to play around a little and add the first pics.

As the gallery is meant to be private you won’t see any albums or pics without logging in – if you still wanna have a look at the layout I chose etc you can have a look here.

  1. Hehe, I was looking for an online gallery generator, too, some days ago, but only found commercial software and Gallery, which is far too overfeatured for me. Why setting up a webserver for a gallery, dealing with user accounts/authentication, and stuff. So, having not found anything, which fitted my needs, I finally ended up in writing my own little perl script, which basically only fetches all the pictures in a directory, generates a table structure and outputs a html and css file.

  2. Mr. Coding! Not bad not bad :-)

True, the Gallery has got a load of features that you might not need, but as I’m lazy I was more than happy to use it, especially due to the fact that I wanted user authentification (as this Gallery is supposed to be a private one) and easy automated adding of pictues (as many different user will add pictures). Apart from that it’s quite superb that you can easily add pictures and they’re automatically resized (thumbnail + medium size + normal (original) size)…
