Firefox 1.0 PR (aka 0.10)

So…here I am…Firefox 1.0 Preview Release up and running…another smooth transaction from my previous version (0.92). Now I just need to get my hands on a new skin (as Qute 2.1.2 isn’t compatible with 1.0 (yet)) :-)

First thing that catches the eye: popup-blocker-status bar? That strangely reminds me of the one in the SP2 IE…/hits right mouse button -> don’t show… ;-)

Update: Noia 2.0 Lite (2.75) it is for now then…I hope Arvid Axelsson will release the new Qute version for 1.0 PR+ soonish though…

Logo Design Contest

As you may know I’m running an leisure time online portal ( WikiFun.de ) with a mate of mine.

After getting the site up and running we’re in urgent need of a logo for the site, because we won’t get the site truely off the ground without a little promotion, hence we need a representative logo which will be used both on the site as well as on “merchandising” articles (we want to hand out t-shirts and stuff).

The Logo-Contest can be found here. The description is in german though, so here’s a quick summary:

  • Logo needs to be in vector format (to assure the scalability)!
  • Logo should represent the site (WikiFUN.de)…short summary of the site would be: location guide (bars, clubs, discos, etc) based on the mediaWiki engine; everyone can edit (almost) everything…so the guide should improve over time…with the help of all the party people out there
  • What will I get if I win the contest: You will get x Euro (not totally clear yet…I guess anything from 50 to 100 Euro can be expected), a special site where the logo is explained (what’s the idea behind it), a link-back + the logo can be used in the designer’s portal
  • Contest will end on 30th November 2004, winner will be declared two weeks after that…

Stress…

…why did I stay up till 5 am this morning…Well, I thought it was a good idea to add a little Configuration Management System, namely MamboServer, to the site I’m currently working on. So I thought that it would be no problem to move the Gallery to a subfolder (it was sitting right in the root of the domain)…big mistake. It’s indeed nearly impossible to move a gallery once installed in a directory or maybe it’s just me…but I don’t think so.

So after a short night’s sleep I got up at 10am and after drinking loads of coffee and coke I’m well awake, but not quite feeling good as I’ve been working on the Uni Project all day (actually I’m still sitting here at the Fraunhofer Institute atm). Now it’s about time to go home…then maybe do a little editing of the site, yet again…and then it’s time to relax and hopefully get some rest on the couch :-)

Ergo: Moving stuff in the middle of the night isn’t a good idea, even though it might look to be one right then ;-)

Week 3

Ooooh….after changing my lineup with the first 4 trades – it came to my attention that Ruud van Nistelrooy didn’t play a minute so far so he had to go, along with some midfielders – I scored 68 points. To my surprise almost anyone in the league score about the same or even more (the top score in our Super League this week is 86) :-(

So it’s me down to 14th place, while Mr. Price is up to 3rd with a week score of 77 points.

Hehe…I’m such a geek :-)

Anyway…I was looking at ways to be able to check up on Ingoal.info when I’m on the road…so I added support for Wap. Successfully tested with my lovely Nokia 8310 and Firefox (with WMLBrowser 0.6.4)…

Gallery anyone?

Yesterday I was in the hunt for a decent, easy to setup gallery system. After previous experience with the software Gallery used by a mate of mine (in version 1.4.3) I was going to give it a shot.

So I downloaded the package (version 1.4.4.pl2) and the german language pack. After reading through the basic setup procedure I was amazed how easy the setup is. After about 10 minutes I was ready to upload everything. The following setup when through without a problem and the gallery was up. Then it was time to play around a little and add the first pics.

As the gallery is meant to be private you won’t see any albums or pics without logging in – if you still wanna have a look at the layout I chose etc you can have a look here.

Hehe…everything seems to be good right and despite my worries I’ve already received the refund from pinchpenny, too – thumbs up.

If you find anything strange (errors, page not found, etc), please contact me. As I said: it could be that there a still some things I need to tweak…

HP to release it’s own iPod

Reports state that Hewlett Packard is about to release it’s very own version of the iPod (sources say it will be presented today in Miami) . This HP iPod will be manufactured by Apple and it’s suppliers and is part of the “business alliance” between HP and Apple – Hewlett Packard ships it’s PCs with Apple’s iTunes preinstalled…

I’m really curious how this thing will look like as the reports stated it’s based on the iPod technology, but said nothing about the design. I guess we’ll have to wait and see, but I don’t think they can make it look better than the current iPod (so maybe all they can do is make it look worse, but we’ll see)…

  • Eliminated four styles. Now it’s either WordPress-default or Mars Spirit. I will try to edit the Mars Spirit style and make it the default (and only) style soonish. Now all I need is a good header image and a nice colour-theme…
  • Added rewrite rules and permalink structure…now the archives etc can be reached via www.ingoal.info/archives/year/month/day – hopefully google will like that too and index all the pages :-)

…by many people. So I had heard last week by some SitePoint Forums Colleagues. Now I finally had some time to play around a little and it’s true: I tried to access the domain from Uni Stuttgart – nothing. Then I tried to ping the domain and the ip is resolved just fine, but there’s a packet loss of 100% :-( .

So I just submitted a support ticket asking my host to have a look at it as this is highly unpleasent…I’ll keep you updated…

That puts me into 11th place in our Super League (out of 17 players)! I think it’s time to do some trades as Mr. Joe Price’s Flid FC is already running away with a score of 71 points (31points, 40 points)… :-( ;-)
