Blog advertising?

After reading about it here I really started thinking:

  • 1. Do I need advertising?
  • 2. What are the benefits of it?
  • 3. Would anyone be even interested in advertising on my blog?
  • 4. How much is in it for me?
  • 5. What sort of factors are appealing to a possible advertiser?

1.: Well, not really. But if the ad isn’t that huge it could easily be placed in the right hand menu (see the two examples “your ad here” I placed at the top and at the bottom of the right hand menu) – and who would complain about some extra cash to at least cover hosting and maybe something extra?

2.: Obviously money…anything else?!

3. + 4. : Well, I guess I’m going to find out as soon as I contacted Jeremy

5.: That is one thing I don’t know either (yet). I guess it’s the standard stuff, number of visitors, number of impressions, PR, etc

Now I’ll go ahead and contact Jeremy…I’ll keep you updated :-)

Some minor site updates

I was in the mood of changing some (little) things around here. I got around to change/add/do the following things:

  • Group buttons – check
  • Correct CSS errors and ensure validation – check
  • Add nicetitles like incorporated in many blogs – check
  • Add information about generation time (bottom) – check
  • Switch clock back to “winter-time” (GMT+2 to GMT+1) – check
  • Remove google-search box – check

Now it’s time to relax a little, the other stuff which I planned has got to wait (adding some static content like infos about the author (= me ;-) ), etc).

Silktide SiteScore (update)

Update:Now the badge is set to dynamically update itself (the image isn’t hosted here anymore, but with silktide. No more constant need for manual updates. Thumbs up!

Update: Now the badge isn’t matching the score anymore, weird, I think this is due to the fact that the new user rating is affecting the score and the update of the badge is a little behind (at least not real-time).

Update: Alrighty, the issues seem to be fixed, now the award badge is matching the score again.

After the recent tweaks to the ranking algo the score of Ingoal’s Insight… dropped to 7.9 (see pic 2), although the ranking itself tells me that I qualify for a score of 8.2 (see pic 1) – now that is weird. Maybe someone could explain this to me?!

new SiteScore

On another note: still no dynamic image to link to, so I would have to change the reward-pic again, but tbh I can’t be arsed to change it yet again ;-)

New template…

It might have come to your attention right away that I’ve made a little template switch. The switch came due to the bad readability of the used template (brown/black). I switched to the much applauded gemini template…I know it’s not perfect yet, but it’s already late again…so don’t expect any wonders today…I’ll try to edit it asap:

To-Do List:

  • Maybe add header pic again
  • Work on color-theme, especially menu (contrast calendar, etc)

Ingoal.info wap-i-fied

Hehe…I’m such a geek :-)

Anyway…I was looking at ways to be able to check up on Ingoal.info when I’m on the road…so I added support for Wap. Successfully tested with my lovely Nokia 8310 and Firefox (with WMLBrowser 0.6.4)…

If you’re crazy enough, you can bookmark it in your mobile phone with the address http://www.ingoal.info/wp-wap.php :-)

www.ingoal.info (update)

Hehe…everything seems to be good right and despite my worries I’ve already received the refund from pinchpenny, too – thumbs up.

If you find anything strange (errors, page not found, etc), please contact me. As I said: it could be that there a still some things I need to tweak…

www.ingoal.info (update)

After the unsatisying experience of hosting www.ingoal.info with pinchpenny and the related problems (namely that the domain was unreachable from many ip-ranges) if decided to exercise my right to cancel the hosting within the 14 day trial period. Whether or not I’ll see my money again and more important, when, is a different – I’ll keep you updated.

I switched to Total Choice Hosting which was recommended by many people. I was really surprised to find the account ready to go only hours after I placed my order (and due to the fact that I had already changed the nameservers I can already access Ingoal.info by name and not only by IP – hopefully you can already too :-)).

Still need to tweak a thing or two, but I’m really looking forward to running this domain with a reliable host with a responsive support staff in case I need them.

The new hosting package includes:

  • 450MB space :-)
  • unlimited MySQL tables
  • all the usual stuff (php, …)

…and with a price tag of 4$ per month (monthly payment option) I’m more than pleased…

Blog update

  • Eliminated four styles. Now it’s either WordPress-default or Mars Spirit. I will try to edit the Mars Spirit style and make it the default (and only) style soonish. Now all I need is a good header image and a nice colour-theme…
  • Added rewrite rules and permalink structure…now the archives etc can be reached via www.ingoal.info/archives/year/month/day – hopefully google will like that too and index all the pages :-)

Google AdSense…

…added to the right hand menu.

In an effort to keep costs for this blog to a minimum I’ve added Google AdSense. Hopefully this will generate some money and I’m sure it doesn’t irritate anyone – if anything that might interest you appears feel free to support me and visit the sponsor. Cheers! ;-)

On another note: I was really suprised by how fast everything went. I put in my application tuesday afternoon and by tuesday evening (german time) I had the welcome message in my Gmail account…thumbs up Google!
